Mumbai / Banbury. Mahindra Racing is getting ready for the opening round of Season 9 of the Formula E World Championship, with the Mexico City E-Prix taking place on 14th January.
Oliver Rowland and Lucas Di Grassi will be behind the wheel of their Mahindra M9Electro cars for the first ever race of the Gen3 era. The team completed a successful test last month in Valencia with over 1,600 km of running over the course of four days and are now feeling refreshed and fully prepared heading into the first round of the season.
Looking ahead to the opening round CEO, Frederic Bertrand said: “We have a great opportunity at the start of a new era of Formula E, with the Gen3 car. It is a unique year for the team as we move forward with a new car, a new team spirit and a new common ambition to perform and win. Of course, there will be obstacles, but we will work together to overcome these as best we can. I know the team will put in their best efforts and move out of their comfort zones to raise the level of performance we expect going into Season 9. We head to Mexico refreshed from the Christmas break and after a positive test in Valencia last month. I’m excited to see how our first race goes ”.
Returning to the team for a second consecutive year, Oliver Rowland commented: “I’m looking forward to getting going again in Mexico. It’s an exciting time with a new car and a new set of rules and lots of different things to learn. The test in Valencia was quietly positive and we are looking forward to the year ahead. Reliability will be key so having a clean weekend is the aim. The Mexican fans are always fantastic to have around. I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully we can get a good result and bring home some points ”,
Former Mexico City E-Prix race winner, Lucas Di Grassi said: “It’s the first race of the season with the new Gen3 car so it is a new challenge for everybody. I like the Mexico track, the Mexican fans are the best and it is one of my favourite races of the year that I really look forward to. I’ve won before in Mexico (twice at Mexico City) so I have a huge passion for this race. I’ve been working really hard since the Christmas break to get my mind and body into shape and be 100% ready to get to work in Mexico. Now the season starts. I hope everything goes smoothly and we can collect some good points for the team ”.
The Mexico City E-Prix takes place on Saturday 14th January at 14:00 CST (20:00 GMT, 01:30 +1 IST)
