a year like no other to set the future roadmap for the European trucking industry<\/em>\u201d, Martin Lundstedt<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Brussels.<\/strong> Martin Lundstedt, Chairman and CEO of the Volvo Group, has been re-elected Chairman of the Commercial Vehicles Board of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).<\/p>\n<p>\u201c2023 will be a year like no other for setting the future roadmap of the European truck industry,\u201d stated Mr Lundstedt. \u201cFor truck makers it is crystal clear, our full focus is on decarbonising road transport \u2013 absolutely everything should underpin this effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The European Commission is expected to revise the CO2 regulation for heavy-duty vehicles this year. \u201cPolicy makers should keep in mind that decarbonising road transport requires more than just targets for vehicle manufacturers,\u201d cautioned Lundstedt. \u201cThis is a B2B market, so it will move rapidly as soon as the enabling conditions \u2013 such as charging and refuelling infrastructure, and cost parity \u2013 are well established.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, we are concerned that the recent proposal for a Euro VII regulation on pollutant emissions carries a major risk of slowing down the transition to climate neutrality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/magazineautomotor.com.mx\/sitio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Captura-de-pantalla-2023-01-16-a-las-11.34.26.png\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Indeed, to comply with Euro VII, truck makers and their wider supply chain would have to move substantial engineering and financial resources from battery and fuel-cell electric technologies back to the internal combustion engine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Recent studies, taking into account our ambitious decarbonisation trajectories, have shown that Euro VII will only deliver very marginal additional benefits to air quality, which will easily be dwarfed by even slightly higher fleet renewal ambitions<\/em>\u201d, explained Mr. Lundstedt.<\/p>\n<p>Euro VII and CO2 standards for heavy-duty vehicles cannot be looked at in isolation from one another. In a recent letter to Frans Timmermans, ACEA therefore called on the Commission to synchronise and align the Euro VII regulation and the CO2 emission targets, so that industry can streamline developments into one strategic pathway, rather than multiple development pathways.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Lundstedt was re-elected for a second one-year term from amongst the members of ACEA\u2019s Commercial Vehicle Board: the CEOs of DAF Trucks, Daimler Truck, Ford Trucks, Iveco Group, MAN Truck &amp; Bus, Scania, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, and Volvo Group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"pntrst_main_before_after\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Follow me &nbsp; \u201c2023 will be a year like no other to set the future roadmap for the European trucking industry\u201d, Martin Lundstedt Brussels.
