Getting back on track and starting a new era for Formula E is hugely exciting and over the past weeks and months, everyone at Maserati MSG Racing has been working furiously behind-the-scenes to make sure that we’re in a good position for this weekend. A promising pre-season test in Valencia brought us confidence, but unfortunately, that performance will count for nothing in Mexico City, race performance is where it counts.

“We’re facing a big challenge but we have an incredible team of experienced, talented people, hungry for success. No matter what happens, we’re in for an exciting and unpredictable race weekend, and if everything aligns, we firmly believe that we have the chance to deliver a strong result ”.

I’m really looking forward to Mexico City and starting my sixth season in Formula E. Last year, we took a big step forward in performance as a team, and with the Gen3 car, we’re at a new stage of discovery in electric vehicle technology and we’re nearly starting from scratch. It’s very different to drive, and the increased power under braking and acceleration makes for an enjoyable challenge behind the wheel.

“We were fortunate to have a solid pre-season test in Valencia, but the real work will begin in Mexico City. In Formula E, the margins are super tight, and it will be very hard to identify who will be the team to beat at this stage. Because of this, it’s important for us to focus on ourselves and make sure that our technical package is the best it possibly can be. If we stay grounded, work hard and focus on our own performance, I’m confident that we can go on to achieve strong results ”.

Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is a very special place for every driver. Not only do I love racing there, but the fans are probably the most passionate of the whole season and every year, the stadium section, Foro Sol, has an amazing energy and buzz. The track itself is fun to drive and has a number of different challenges, especially with the altitude which makes it quite unique compared to other races on the calendar.‍

“We enjoyed a promising pre-season test in Valencia, and since then, we have been working very hard behind the scenes to continue to optimise our performance. Because the Gen3 car is new, I anticipate that everyone in the paddock will have a steep learning curve, but that’s what makes a new era exciting. I’m really looking forward to starting my first race for Maserati MSG Racing, I feel part of the family already and I can’t wait to get going ”.

Pre-season testing in Valencia was a great indication of the talent and dedication of the entire Maserati MSG Racing team. As we approach the first round of the season in Mexico, we can’t wait to see Max and Edo compete in what’s set to be another memorable moment for us all. The official return of the Maserati brand to racing will be packed with emotion, as we set our sights on the podium once again to race beyond “.

Mortara and Günther season 9 helmets

Motorsport rewards flair. No idea is too bold, no overtake is too brave, and no obstacle is too big to overcome. On the road to greatness, innovation and creativity go hand-in-hand.

Just as drivers gain acclaim, and teams receive recognition, fearless self-expression is also immortalised, and despite being an item of protection, racing helmets have the power to stand the test of time.

From an initial blank canvas, every helmet showcases a unique design, and at the start of each season, drivers stamp their personality and pin their colours for the world to see.

For Formula E’s ninth season, Maserati MSG Racing’s drivers, Edoardo Mortara and Maximilian Günther, will both compete with a revised aesthetic, adopting refreshed iterations of their timeless designs.

Both are instantly recognisable, yet vastly different, and for Edo, his 2023 helmet builds upon his long-time design and ongoing relationship with the bright and bold. “I decided to go for a new look with my helmet designer, Daniel Designs, for Season 9,” explains the Swiss-Italian racer, on the eve of his sixth season in Formula E.

“Daniel Russello is an artist and as you can see, on the top, we still have the nice logos, ‘the smilers’, that I like a lot.

“I pretty much kept my initial design which I’ve had since karting, with the lines, but I decided to play with the colours quite a bit.

“It has quite a lot of yellow, orange, red, and purple. I like it, hopefully, it’ll be a good one for this season ”.

Continuing to sport the same design since he stepped onto the single-seater scene, Max’s helmet for Season 9 sports a refreshed colour palette, alongside some new distinctive detailing. “As you can see, my helmet is a new colour,” says Max. “Blue is my favourite colour, and I thought that now is the right time to make the change as the team colour is very blue.

“On the design, there are small changes compared to the past but really, the main concept is the same. I’ve got the ‘Max G’ logo on the side which is something that I’ve had for along time.

“I also have the star on the top, which has a special meaning for me as well. Obviously, I’ve got my new starting number, the number seven, in the back.

“I will use this number from now on, hopefully for a long time. Some other details on the helmet include the ‘Max G’ logo underneath my visor, some glitter detailing to make it look even more shiny.

“In general, I like the helmet to be very simple, clear, to be able to spot it from a distance, and that’s why I chose this nice colour. And that’s my brand-new Season 9 helmet ”.
